The Italian Army, following the development of the former Yugoslavia’s civil war, patrolled more frequently along the border in the area from Monte Forno (Tarvisio) to Ponte Sottile (Trieste).

The monitoring and covering operation involves some divisions of the IV^th and V^th Army Corps.

During 1992-1996 it was also named Operation Testuggine.
